At this year's Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (South Korea), the referee department of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) represented with a total of five participants: Lisa Linnek and Lukas Kohlmüller as linesmen, Nicole Hertrich as main referee. Bianca Piechaczek and Thomas Schurr also worked as supervisors for the international ice hockey association IIHF.
All participants were enthusiastic about the Olympic atmosphere and the sporting highlights, especially of course about the results of the German national ice hockey team, which made history with convincing performances and winning the silver medal. But participation also meant hard work for the five active players. Lukas Kohlmüller played in four games, Lisa Linnek and Nicole Henrich were even on the ice for the women's gold medal game. Bianca Piechaczek also supervised the gold medal game as a "video goal judge". She was also in this role at the historic event of the first game of the unified Korean women's national ice hockey team. Thomas Schurr observed the bronze medal game as a "referee supervisor" and was thus also on duty until the end of the Olympic ice hockey tournament. There were many unforgettable moments and experiences for everyone, and the warmth and hospitality of the South Koreans was particularly impressive.
