The day after tomorrow against Finland / Cult of the #tassengoc
Things continue for the German national team. While the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund team DEB (eV) used yesterday's day off from training to shout loudly for biathlete Laura Dahlmeier to win gold, today's strength must be focused on training. National coach Marco Sturm will be back on the ice in the afternoon South Korean time. Beforehand, his boys have to endure dry and strength training sessions.
The good news is that everyone is fit and so far there are no injured or ailing players. One or two of the actors had to struggle with a slight cold in the past few days - and Sturm himself also lost his voice - but that has now cleared up again. The team is in trouble.
Since things get serious against Finland in two days and the duel with the Swedes follows immediately, the numerous PR appointments have now been reduced to a minimum. Even if the national players feel honored that they are extremely popular despite the large number of stars from other sports Fans and media seem to be. Requests for interviews have recently increased more and more. The foreign media in particular want to find out as much as possible about the German squad.
“A Finnish journalist even asked me on the flight to South Korea if he could do an interview with me,” laughed Dominik Kahun from Munich. And Marcel Goc is also a welcome contact. However, less because of his sporting background and more because of his new passion for social media. #tassengoc is the new motto for the national team. The first steps on social networks are the running joke within the team.
“I created an Instagram account shortly before the meeting in Füssen. “It seems to be going quite well,” says the captain happily. In fact: from around 15 followers on day one, the man from Mannheim is heading straight towards 3.000. And only because he posted a “Team Germany” mug and his teammate Dennis Endras smugly commented on it with #tassengoc. Since then, the term has become a cult, many Fans celebrate the captain for it. Goc amused: “I had no idea how it would turn out. But it’s fun.”
