Until 2022: The 39-year-old coach would like to “continue on the path he has chosen” / Reindl: “Successful activity in the sense of DEB“Continue the POWERPLAY 26 concept”
Marco Sturm remains national coach and general manager at the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB). Four days before the official start of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (February 9th - 25th), the 39-year-old Dingolfing native signed a new working paper with the association. “We have agreed to work together for the next four years until 2022,” he said happily DEB-President Franz Reindl.
Sturm, who is currently preparing for the Olympic Games with the national team in Füssen, was also pleased that an agreement could be reached before the tournament in South Korea. “It’s nice that it all worked out before the Olympics. Basically, we were always on the same wavelength anyway. Now we want to continue on the path we have chosen. I enjoy the work DEB I’m still having a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to the coming years, after all we still have a lot to do.”
Franz Reindl once again emphasized the importance of Sturm's personnel, especially with regard to the common orientation: "Marco's very successful work as national coach and general manager of the national team as well as his commitment to the young talent national teams can therefore be seamlessly integrated into the spirit of the DEBPOWERPLAY 26 concept will be continued.”
The German NHL record player moved to the association in the summer of 2015. Under his leadership, the national team reached the quarter-finals twice at the last World Championships. In addition, she qualified DEB-Selection again in September 2016 for the Olympic Games that are about to begin.
