A good 24 hours after arriving in Tokyo, the women's national team had to admit defeat to hosts Japan 0:6 (0:1; 0:5; 0:0) in the first of two games.
“We traveled to Japan with the aim of developing as a team. We managed to do that under the extreme circumstances, despite the defeat being quite clear in the end. Overall, the girls presented themselves well today,” said Hinterstocker after the game. “We played well in the first half, then ran into a counterattack and were 0-1 down. In the middle section things went one after the other, so that we were 0:6 behind at the second break. In the last 20 minutes we switched to 15 players, so we were able to better match the pace of the Japanese and keep the third evenly balanced.”
After a day of training tomorrow she hits DEB-Selection for the Japanese for a second time on Friday at 11.15 a.m. German time. “We hope that we will have cured the jet lag and tired legs a bit. In any case, we will regroup and attack again,” said the women’s national coach.
