Women's national team defeats Japan
Penalty shootout brings the decision / Hinterstocker: “We were able to win an intense game through a compact team performance”
Strong performance is rewarded: The women's national team wins the second game of the 5-nation tournament in Rauma (Finland) with 2:1 (0:0; 1:0; 0:1: 0:0; 1:0). Penalty shootout against Japan.
As in the game the day before, the first third was expected to remain goalless today, although both teams had the opportunity to score points in their power play. In the second half of the game, Yvonne Rothemund was able to use a German power play to take the lead 1-0. She deflected a shot from Anna Fiegert into the Japanese goal. The team led by women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker was able to hold the lead until five minutes before the end of the game, but then the Japanese equalized. After a goalless extra time, it was time for a penalty shootout. Captain Julia Zorn skilfully converted the decisive penalty, while Ivonne Schroeder made an excellent save on the other side and secured the 2-1 victory.
Benjamin Hinterstocker, women's national coach: “Today was the first meeting with the Japanese since February and we are of course overjoyed that we were able to win an extremely intense game through a compact team performance. We set out to score points today and we managed to do so. We will now try to recover as best we can for tomorrow’s game against Russia and then put in another good performance.”

U17 national team wins first game against Austria
Four goals in the final period/again against Austria tomorrow
The last third brings the turning point: the U17 national team wins 5:2 (1:0; 0:2; 4:0) against Austria in the first of two games at the Federal Training Center in Füssen.
The German U17 selection played carefully in the first half and created some promising opportunities. Nevertheless, Henriquez-Morale's goal was the only one in the third. The lost in the second section DEB-Team took control of the game and so their counterparts from Austria gained self-confidence and more share of the game, which they were able to convert into two goals by the second break. But in the final third the German team should be back in control and take advantage of their chances. Coach Uli Liebsch's team was able to score four goals before the final whistle and thus secured a 5-2 win against Austria.
The second game against our neighbors from Austria will take place tomorrow at 13.00 p.m.
Michael Pfuhl, Team Manager: “Overall, we saw a victory for our U17 team today. But we still have to improve in the area of passing and scoring in the future.”
