Lanzl and Kluge meet / Hinterstocker: “We were able to improve from third to third”
The women's national team narrowly lost to Sweden 5:2 (3:0; 0:1; 1:1; 1:0) after extra time in the first game of the 1-nation tournament in Rauma (Finland).
After a somewhat timid start from both teams, it was the Swedes who scored the first goal of the game in the second half of the game. Hanna Olsson overcame Jenny Harss in the German goal from the crowd. But the DEB-Selection stuck to the game plan and continued to create chances. Andrea Lanlz was finally able to equalize 32-1 in the 1nd minute of the game.
After the second break things went quickly. 41:36 had been played when Erika Grahm brought Sweden back in front. But the DEB-Selection was waiting for another equalizer and it should pay off. Laura Kluge completed a nice power play by the German team with a half-high shot from outside to score Germany's second goal of the evening and thus force the deserved extra time. In overtime, women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker's team had to admit defeat. Pernilla Winberg's goal gave the Tre Kronors victory.
Benjamin Hintertsocker, women's national coach: “We had a very good start to the tournament. The team was able to improve from third to third and score two goals in the majority. We want to score again in the game against Japan.”
