Künast: “We created opportunities and control for ourselves” / Tomorrow against France
Hard work is rewarded: The U20 national team defeated Austria 2018:20 (4:1; 1:1; 2:0) in the second game of the 1 IIHF U0 Ice Hockey World Championship in Meribel (France).
The team led by U20 national coach Christian Künast started the game powerfully from the start and was able to create some good attacks. The 1-0 score promptly followed. Valentin Busch took the lead in the 5th minute of the game on a pass from Luca Glaser. Afterwards the DEB-Selection was a little more careless, which gave the counterparts from Austria a boost. A balanced third developed until shortly before the first break, in which Austria was able to equalize almost four minutes before the siren.
In the middle section, Germany was the team that dominated the game. Through a lot of commitment and a high willingness to run, they were able to DEB-Boys develop a preponderance of opportunities. In the 28th minute it was Timo Walther who gave Germany the lead again. A little later, Johannes Huss increased the advantage to 3:1.
The German U20 boys stayed on top of the game in the final third and were able to keep the pace high until the end. Tobias Eder put the finishing touches with his goal in the 52nd minute of the game, sealing the final score of 4-1 for Germany.
Christian Künast, U20 national coach: “We came out of the dressing room well in the first third today, then lost our line a bit and helped the Austrians get into the game. We were then able to take control of the game in the second third and create opportunities and gain control. In the end we were able to win the third period and could have scored one or two more goals. We already have the next game ahead of us tomorrow and we will now try to regenerate quickly.”
