U20 keeps a clean slate: The U20 national team also wins the third and final game of the U20 Future Challenge in the weeArena in Bad Tölz with 4:3 (1:0; 2:2; 0:1; 1:0) after a penalty shootout against the Tölz lions.
After the hosts' initial visual superiority, the team led by U20 national coach Christian Künast was able to work their way into the game better and better and promptly took a 1-0 lead. It was local hero Constantin Ontl who got the target behind the opponent's goal and played it precisely into the slot to Yannik Wenzel. He sank the puck under the crossbar without hesitation. Ontl and Busch then had the opportunity to increase, but failed because of Mike Böhm in the Tölzer box.
The Lions came back out of the locker room in a spirited manner and pushed for an equalizer. With double the advantage, they had the opportunity to do so, but Hendrik Hane in the German team's goal made brilliant saves twice in a row. But in the 29th minute he had to admit defeat. The U18 national player Leon Hüttl completed a shot from the blue line to equalize 1-1 for his hometown club. Then it happened in quick succession. First the hosts increased their hits, shortly afterwards Valentin Busch scored to make it 2-2 and Tim Brunnhuber took the lead to 3-2 shortly before the second break.
Johannes Sedlmayr brought the Tölzer team back to the equalizer in the 53rd minute with a backhand shot. A little later, Kiefersauer and Busch both had the winning goal on their own, but couldn't find a way past Böhm. In the penalty shootout that followed, it was only Dani Bindels who was able to score for the German team, but that was enough in the end, because Hane parried all three shots from the Tölzer Löwen on the other side.
Christain Künast, U20 national coach: “We were able to draw some important lessons today from the last test before the upcoming World Cup preparations. Which of course doesn't make the decisions for the coaching team regarding the nomination any easier. A big thank you goes to the Tölzer Löwen, who really competed here with a top team.”
