24 hours after the 2-8 defeat against record world champions Russia, the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund team (DEB) denied rehabilitation. Although that had DEB-Team kept Slovakia under control for long stretches in front of 6.139 spectators in Augsburg's Curt Frenzel Stadium, but in the end they still had to accept a 0:3 (0:1, 0:0, 0:2) defeat.
As agreed, Leo Pföderl, Yasin Ehliz, Patrick Hager, Daryl Boyle and Bernhard Ebner moved into the squad for Daniel Pietta, Brooks Macek, Frank Mauer, Justin Krueger and Yannic Seidenberg. This meant that the youngsters Stefan Loibl, Andreas Eder and Maxi Kammerer were used again.
The hosts gave the Slovaks a big fight in the first half, but the first goal fell on the visitors' side. The German selection fell behind due to being outnumbered. Timo Pielmeier in the box had no chance. So it remained 0-1 after the first 20 minutes.
The middle third clearly belonged to the national team. The only thing that should be missing are the goals. Marcel Müller, Patrick Hager, Dominik Kahun and Leo Pföderl had the equalizer on the trowel, but nothing significant came out of it.
This was to take bitter revenge in the final period, when the athletically robust Slovaks were able to complete a counterattack by Marcel Hascak to make it 48-2 after 0 minutes. Than DEB-Team took Pielmeier out of the box at the end, the Slovaks managed to make the final score 3-0 with an empty net seconds before the end.
At the end of the tournament, the national team will face Team USA, which is full of numerous top players, on Sunday (16.45:1 p.m., live on SPORTXNUMX). Before that, Russia and Slovakia face each other.
