Diebolder scores a consolation goal / Mayer: “The team shows great solidarity”
After a great effort and an overall convincing team performance, the U16 national team had to admit defeat to Finland 1:5 (0:1; 0:3; 1:1) in the third game in Vierumäki.
Stefan Mayer, U16 national coach: "In the third game on the third day, it was clear that the two previous games had left their mark on our boys. Even though we invested a lot, Finland was simply a level above us today. We were able to keep the game very evenly balanced, especially at the beginning, and were only 0:1 behind after the first third. The team implemented the instructions in defense particularly well. In the first ten minutes of the second third, we were unable to keep up with the Finns' pace, allowing them to extend their lead. Although the game was as good as decided, our team fought on and was able to draw the final third with an energetic performance. We saw that we did not collapse, but that the Finns were able to assert themselves with their class, especially in the second third during the long changeover. Overall, the team showed great cohesion and courage in terms of speed on the ice in all games."
