Two clear wins against Austria / DEB-Selection plays twice to zero
The German U18 women's national team wins their first two games of the 2017/18 season in the weeARENA in Bad Tölz with 7:0 (3:0; 1:0; 3:0) and 8:0 (4:0; 2: 0; 2:0) against Austria.
In the first game on Saturday evening, the German U18 women started the game with a lot of self-confidence and consequently took the lead after just 1:22 minutes. Lilli Welcke converted a free-standing follow-up shot to make it 1-0. In the 14th minute of the game it was again Lilli Welcke who served local hero Sarah Kubiczek to make it 2-0. The German team then controlled the game and increased the lead to 3-0 through Amelie Cyrulies' follow-up shot one minute before the half-time whistle.
Two minutes had passed in the second third when Aileena Dopheide scored her first international goal to make it 4-0. After phases with no chances on both sides, the score increased DEB-Selection picked up the pace again in the final section and Anna-Maria Nickisch extended the lead to five points with a shot from the blue line. Almost two and a half minutes later, Christina Schwamborn ran around behind the opponent's goal, moved into the slot and scored with a shot through the Austrian goalkeeper's pads, making it 6-0 for the German team. Sarah Kubiczek scored the deserved final point five minutes later with her second goal of the evening to make the final score 7-0.
Tommy Kettner, U18 women's national coach: “We are quite satisfied with the team's performance in the first game of this season. However, there is still a lot of work waiting for us in the coming months. Now we have to shake our legs and deliver the same performance tomorrow.”

After a short night, both teams struggled to get into the game in the opening minutes of the second match on Sunday morning. Then it was a double strike by the German U18 women in the 5th minute that got the game going. First it was Luisa Kaiser who shot the puck through the pads of the Austrian goalkeeper, nine seconds later Lilli Welcke increased the lead to 2-0 with a powerful shot into the top corner. The German team then took the momentum and made it 4-0 at halftime with another double strike in the seventh minute by Christina Schwamborn and Lilli Welcke.
The second third was characterized by top-class chances for the German U18 women, who literally restricted their neighbors from Austria. In the 33rd minute they were rewarded DEB-Selection then. Christina Schwamborn made it 5-0 from close range, Sarah Kubiczek made it 6-0 two minutes later.
In the final period, Alina Leveringhaus increased the score to 50-7 with her first international goal in the 0th minute of the game, before Lucia Schmitz put the final score to 54-8 in the 0th minute.
Franziska Busch, assistant coach of the U18 women's national team: “We managed to build on yesterday's performance. We had many different players who were able to get on the scoresheet in both games. All in all, this weekend was a good start to the international season. We will meet again in just a few weeks and have the next strong opponents in front of us, Russia and Switzerland, for whom we will get ready beforehand.”
