32 players nominated for first ice training course / IIHF launches goalie camp for women / Schuster and Seitz end international careers
Back on the ice: After the U16 and U18 women made the start last week, this week our women are also heading off the tartan track and onto the ice again. Women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker has invited 32 players to the national performance center in Füssen for the first ice training session of the season.
The women's national team looks back on the past season with both a tear in its eye and a smile on its face. After narrowly missing out on qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in February, it celebrated fourth place at the World Championships in April, the best result since the German women's national ice hockey team was founded. And even though there is no top division World Championship planned for the upcoming 4/2017 season due to the Winter Games in PyeongChang (South Korea), Hinterstocker wants to make the most of the year: "We will carry out our training courses and measures this season in the same way as in previous years. Ultimately, we have to work just as hard as the nations that qualified for the Winter Olympics. After fourth place in Plymouth, we will use the next 18 months to prepare effectively for the World Championships in Finland in April 4. ParaOur full attention is now on preparing the U18 team for the Top Division World Championship in January.”
As usual, Hinterstocker will be supported on the ice by U18 women's national coach Tommy Kettner and goalkeeping coach Andreas Jorde; off the ice, OSP sports scientist and athletic trainer Marco Dietzel will lead the units.
IIHF Goalie Camp
ParaAlongside the training course in Füssen, the first ever IIHF Women's Goaltending Development Camp will be held. Organised by the IIHF Women's Committee, a total of 19 senior and U23.07.2017 goalkeepers and 48 goalkeeping coaches will take part in the new format from July 18-16, XNUMX in Granada, Spain. Not only the field of participants but also the coaching team is made up of nations from all over the world, with the exception of the top two nations, the USA and Canada. These two nations are only sending two coaches: former Olympian and current Buffalo Beauts goalkeeper Brianne McLaughlin and current Hockey Canada goalkeeper representative Joe Johnston. To underline the importance of implementing this camp, Swiss Olympic bronze medalist Florence Schelling and Slovakian goalkeeper and newly appointed General Manager of the Slovakian women's team Zuzana Tomcikova will also visit and support the camp as ambassadors.
Sandra Abstreiter, Frederike Trosdorff and Lilly Uhrmann will participate from the German women's national team. Women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker sees the newly created goalkeeper school format as very positive: "It's great that the IIHF has been able to create a goalkeeper camp after the successful concept of the IIHF Development Camps. It also shows the importance and energy that the IIHF invests in women's ice hockey. We really appreciate being able to send three goalkeepers to Granada."
Schuster and Seitz end their national team careers
Women's national coach Hinterstocker can no longer take the two players Lisa Schuster and Julia Seitz into account for the upcoming courses and measures. The 30-year-old native of Munich and the 23-year-old from the Allgäu region both had to end their international careers for professional reasons.
Julia Seitz went through the entire U18 program in her youth and took part in the Women's World Cup in Malmö (Sweden) in 2016. In total, she has six goals and four assists in 55 international matches. The striker always distinguished herself with impeccable behavior and brought a lot of energy and passion to the team, not least through her running ability.
The striker Lisa Schuster can look back on a long career in the jersey of the German national team. She has a total of 148 games, some of them at top division world championships, as well as 20 goals and 17 assists. In 2014, Schuster crowned her international career by taking part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The choice-BerlinErin always strengthened the team with her skills and reliable performance. “I look back on a wonderful eight years with ups and downs, unique and unforgettable experiences with the best players in Germany. I wish German women’s ice hockey all the best for the future and am proud to have been a part of it.”
Benjamin Hinterstocker: "On behalf of the German Ice Hockey Federation and the women's national team, we would like to thank the two players for their commitment and passion over the years. We hope that they will remain involved in women's ice hockey in some way. As former national players, Lisa and Julia are of course always welcome to attend events or training courses."
