As part of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the Medical Symposium took place in Cologne last week in addition to the games.
Organized and implemented by the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) and the partners Zimmer MedizinSysteme and ORTEMA Sport Protection, the event took place in front of around 100 speakers and participants in the Steigenberger Hotel. In front of the eyes of DEB-President Franz Reindl offered everyone present an interesting and varied program. In addition to insights into the organization and implementation of the Ice Hockey World Cup, medical topics were of course primarily on the agenda. Moderated by Dr. Boris Brand (IIHF), the topic of the lectures was wide-ranging: from muscle injuries, therapy options with PRP in top-class sports to surgical treatment of knee injuries, cruciate ligament plastics, options for orthopedic-technical care or the various aspects of rehabilitation options and dealing with head injuries, there was something for every participant to find. After an open discussion round, all participants were able to watch the German national team's game against Sweden in the LANXESS arena at the end of the day.
Stefan Schiadnagel, national trainer for science and training: “The Medical Symposium is for DEB and its partners are a very good opportunity for the association to promote scientific exchange. The implementation of scientific and sports medicine findings is one of our strategic goals in relation to the performance of our teams. It is also important that the DEB As a training provider and engine for knowledge management in ice hockey, this knowledge is passed on to the entire ice hockey society in Germany. This year’s symposium was of high professional quality and was characterized by interdisciplinary exchange.”
