“Keep other options open for us” / Zerressen and Raedeke are no longer there

National coach Marco Sturm has announced his provisional squad for the 2017 home World Cup (May 5th - 21st, 2017) in Cologne: The German national ice hockey team will have a 25-man squad, including three goalkeepers, eight defensemen and 14 strikers , into the World Cup tournament.

“The team came together better and better during preparation. Nevertheless, we are keeping other options open,” said Sturm, the defender Pascal Zerressen (Kölner Haie) and striker Brent Raedeke (Adler Mannheim) was removed from the squad. Sturm must have named his final squad by two hours before the opening game of the World Cup.

“Informing the players so shortly before a World Cup tournament that they are no longer there is particularly hard, but unfortunately it is also the responsibility of the national coach,” said Sturm.
