Ice Tigers striker scores hat trick / Seven goals in the second period in a 7-4 win over the Czech Republic / Gogulla scored in his anniversary game
The German national ice hockey team successfully mastered its home premiere at the Euro Hockey Challenge: In the first game in front of its own audience during the preparation phase for the home World Cup (May 5th - 21st) in Cologne, national coach Marco Sturm's team won on Saturday ARENA NÜRNBERGER INSURANCE against the Czech Republic 7:4 (1:0, 4:3, 2:1). For the DEB-Selection, it was the first win against the Czech Republic on home ice in 21 years.
6.550 spectators were treated to a lot, especially in the second section. Seven goals were scored after the first break. Philip Gogulla from the Kölner Haien also crowned his 150th international match with the goal to make it 3-2.
Sturm had put his trust in keeper Timo Pielmeier in the first of two comparisons at the weekend against the Czech Republic. As agreed, Niko Krämmer, Marcus Kink, Stephan Daschner and Mathias Niederberger did not play on Saturday.
In a dynamic first half, both teams created some good chances. Timo Pielmeier in the home team's box was able to excel, as did his counterpart Pavel Francouz. However, the Czech goalie was powerless to deal with Brant Raedeke's backhand goal in the power play. The second third was 1-0 and ended spectacularly: six goals were scored within just over three and a half minutes: Denis Reul responded to the guests' equalizer with a powerful shot to make it 2-1. The Czechs equalized again and the home team responded again through Philip Gogulla. The 3:3 only lasted for a short time: Bernhard Ebner made it 4:3 before local hero Yasin Ehliz increased the score to 5:3 with a penalty shot.
In the final section the match calmed down again. The German selection focused on defense. Ehliz finally became the crowd's favorite with his second goal to make it 6:3 and 7:3. Thanks to Tomasz Hyka, the Czech Republic was able to reduce the score to 24:7 4 seconds before the end of the game, but was no longer able to endanger the German team's deserved victory.
The national team will face the same opponent again on Sunday. The first face-off in the Mannheim SAP Arena is at 16.45:1 p.m. SPORTXNUMX is also broadcasting this encounter live. The German team will then get the finishing touches for the home World Cup next week with the two games against Latvia in Bietigheim and Ravensburg.
