The U18 national team lost to Denmark 2017:18 (4:5; 2:0; 1:1) in the final game of the 1 IIHF U4 Ice Hockey World Championship Div.IA in Bled (Slovenia) and ended the tournament in fifth place . One game day before the end of the World Cup, France had already been promoted to the top division, Hungary was relegated to Div.IB.
Steffen Ziesche, U18 national coach: “We played really well for two thirds today, but in the last third we left our line and took penalties, which ultimately cost us the victory. Overall, of course, the tournament didn't go as we had imagined. But of course the other nations are not sleeping either and have all started here at the Div.IA with teams that are really well trained technically and in terms of skating. The field of participants is getting closer together and the level is getting higher every year.”
