National team: No success in Norway – 2:5 in the second comparison: Only Matthias Plachta and David Wolf scored in front of World Cup ambassador Felix Neureuther
Munich, April 08.04.2017th, 5 - The German national ice hockey team also suffered a defeat in the second preparation game for the home World Cup (May 21th - 2017st, 2) in Norway. On Saturday, national coach Marco Sturm's team lost to the hosts 5:0 (0:2, 3:0, 2:XNUMX) in the “Kristins Hall” in Lillehammer and had to return home without success.
As agreed, Sturm changed the squad in five positions compared to the 1:5 on Thursday. Sinan Akdag, David Wolf, Phillip Gogulla and Patrick Hager were included in the squad, while Mathias Niederberger also acted as a substitute behind keeper Dennis Endras. The national coach once again trusted the youngster quartet Pascal Zerressen, Dominik Tiffels, Jakob Mayenschein and Maxi Kammerer.
In front of the eyes of the German ski star and World Cup ambassador Felix Neureuther, an even game initially developed, but no goals were scored in the first section. That changed quickly after the first change: within 57 seconds, Norway scored a double blow to make it 0-2 from Germany's perspective. Halfway through the game, Norway scored their third goal. But the national team showed morale and fought back: Matthias Plachta with a backhand shot and David Wolf with a direct shot made it 2:3 after 40 minutes. Brent Raedeke always hung up. In the final section, the guests tried to equalize, but another power play goal from ex-DEL crack Ken André Olimb meant another two-goal deficit. Sturm took Endras off the ice in favor of another field player, which Norway took advantage of to make the final score 5-2.
The national team returns to home territory on Sunday morning. The German selection will meet next Tuesday for a short training camp in Mannheim before heading to Belarus two days later, where there will be another two Euro Hockey Challenges against the hosts on the program.
National coach Marco Sturm: “The results here in Norway were certainly not satisfactory. Nevertheless, I saw a good forecheck in the tactical area today. We will now continue on our path, work hard and then tackle the upcoming tasks with a slightly different squad and fresh people.”
