The U18 national team lost the last preparation game for the 2017 IIHF U18 Ice Hockey World Championship. At the Federal Training Center in Füssen, coach Steffen Ziesche's team lost to the French U18 national team 3:2 (1:1, 1:1, 1:0). The DEBThe selection started the match well and took the lead after less than three minutes through Sebastian Streu. The first 20 minutes were characterized by hectic action and little flow on either side. France equalized through an individual error shortly before the end of the third period and turned the game around in the second period. The longer the match lasted, the better the German U18 national team found their game. Consequently, Nicolas Appendino equalized when they were in the majority. The last third belonged to the German team, but their utilization of opportunities and concentration in the final stages left something to be desired. Five minutes before the end, the French were lucky to score the winning goal.

Steffen Ziesche, national coach of the U18 national team: “Unfortunately, we had a hard time getting into the game on the day of the nomination. We expected France to be exactly the same: aggressive and strong. Today we were too excited and made too many simple mistakes. The last third was better. In the next training sessions until Friday we will work on the details and tactics in order to be optimally prepared for the World Cup.”
