Common voice for DBB, DEB, DFB, DHB and DVV

Ingo Weiss (President of the German Basketball Association), Franz Reindl (President Deutscher Eishockey-Bund), Dr. Rainer Koch (German Football Association, 1st Vice President – Amateurs, Law and Statutory Issues), Andreas Michelmann (President of the German Handball Association) and Thomas Krohne (President of the German Volleyball Association) presented the joint initiative of German team sports.
“Teamsport Germany gives German team sports a strong and common voice,” says Michelmann, who took on the role of spokesman for the initiative in 2017. “Of course our associations compete in some fields, but the basic needs, tasks and solutions are so similar that the merger strengthens us. We are convinced that our arguments will gain in strength when presented together. Team Sports Germany will help to establish Germany as a team sports location on a stable basis, strengthen it in international comparison and thus create greater social relevance.”
Teamsport Germany will be the platform for regular exchanges about current and important sports topics with each other and thus have a targeted effect on the outside world. The addressees of the positions presented with one voice include representatives of German sport and the (sports) political institutions, as well as politicians, but also international associations, sponsors, rights dealers and marketers as well as the national and international professional leagues and the media. The association of team sports improves the conditions for exploiting synergy potential.
After several preparatory meetings at the level of presidents and general secretaries, Teamsport Germany has defined the following core topics for future work. These include:
- Promotion of competitive sports
- Regulations to promote talent trained in Germany
- National and international situation of media rights
- Advertising rights and marketing
- Service offerings
- International events
“The founding of Teamsport Germany represents the next important step in positioning the largest team sports in Germany, because together we will be able to achieve a lot. The future exchange on many different topics and projects will make the work more efficient and targeted. The German Basketball Federation is very pleased about the founding of the Teamsport Germany initiative and will actively support it,” explains DBB President Ingo Weiss.
“The DFB is happy to enter into a closer and more intensive exchange and increased cooperation with the other Olympic team sports. It is important to me to emphasize that this merger does not affect the tasks of the association of sports sponsorship providers, which represents the interests of the DFB and the DFL, and that the aim is not to create any opposition, but on the contrary, to work in partnership and even closer cooperation with the DOSB “, says the 1st DFB Vice President Dr. Rainer Koch.
Thomas Krohne, President of the German Volleyball Association: “We extremely welcome the merger of these team sports. The associations involved have already worked together on specific occasions in the past, but now the cooperation is becoming more intensive, more regular and more coordinated. What is particularly important to me is the intensive exchange on the topics of national and international marketing and media rights as well as the coordination of the game calendars.”
Franz Reindl, President Deutscher Eishockey-Bund: “The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund expressly welcomes the proactive merger of the leading team sports to form Teamsport Germany. We see significant synergy effects in the use of mutual know-how and joint sports development strategies.”
