DEB-Women are subject to Russia / Immigrants and Smart People
The German women's national team finished the Nations Cup in Füssen in 4th place. They lost in the last tournament game DEB-Selection Russia with 2:5 (0:2/2:0/0:3).
After the German women's national team finished the preliminary round of Group A with two wins and one loss, today the two runners-up played against Russia in a match for third place in the top-class 3-nation tournament. Before that, in the duel between the two group winners, Finland had narrowly defeated the team from Canada 8-1 and thus secured victory in the tournament.
The German women had the first big chance in the game. Julia Zorn intercepted a pass from the Russians, but shot just past the guests' left post. Two minutes later Russia took the lead. The German women were unable to prevent an opposing striker from shooting on goal and the score was 0-1 (8th). The proportions of the game remained balanced, with the Eastern Europeans patiently waiting for the German team to make mistakes. A loss of the target in the neutral zone gave the guests a two-on-one situation that led to 0-2 (14th).
In the middle section, the German women improved despite the strain of five games in six days. First, Manuela Anwander shortened the score to 1:2 (34th) after a pass from Andrea Lanzl. Four minutes later, Manuela Anwander served her strike partner Laura Kluge, who had no problems making it 2-2. So everything was open again.
The Russians had the better start to the final third, taking the lead again with a pawn trick (45'). A loss of the target on their own blue line then led to 2:4 (55th) and a minute later the guests finally closed the bag with 2:5.
Women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker: “The eight international matches in the last three weeks were very important for us. The team has developed in all respects and has significantly increased its performance level. We will now work in detail on ice hockey-specific details in the upcoming preparatory courses in Füssen. We will begin our trip to Japan as prepared as possible.”
