Ski ace Felix Neureuther is the first official ambassador of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
Cologne/Paris, January 02nd, 2017 – The year of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship has begun (May 5th – 21st, 2017 in Cologne and Paris). On the first day of the year, Germany's world-class alpine skier Felix Neureuther was named the first official ambassador of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, co-hosted by Germany and France. From the hands of Franz Reindl, President of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) and the World Cup Organizing Committee, he received the ambassador jersey of the German national ice hockey team on the occasion of the New Year's ski jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, of course with the number 17 on the back. The jersey was presented as part of the TV broadcasts of the New Year's ski jumping by ARD for around broadcast live to five million television viewers.
“Felix Neureuther is an outstanding athlete and a first-class figurehead for all of German sport. We are very proud that Felix represents the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship as an official ambassador and, as such, will bring the World Championship to his huge Fancommunity in Germany and abroad,” said Franz Reindl on the appointment.
And Felix Neureuther on his new role: “I have always been a big ice hockey fanFan. The live experience at an ice hockey game cannot be topped. The Ice Hockey World Championship in Germany and France will be a really cool experience that I am personally looking forward to, especially since I am good friends with some of the guys from the German national ice hockey team. As an official World Championship ambassador, I will be very happy to use my opportunities to stir up enthusiasm for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Cologne and Paris."
The 32-year-old Felix Neureuther from Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been competing in the Alpine Ski World Cup since 2003. His special discipline is slalom. With currently 12 World Cup victories, he is the most successful German men's ski racer to date. He was able to win several medals at world championships.
The Organizing Committee of the 2017 IIHF World Championships intends to appoint an exclusive group of ten official World Championship ambassadors from sport and society. Official World Cup Ambassadors represent the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship to the outside world with their name, image and the values they embody. In their role, they use their popularity and their networks to draw attention to the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. Felix Neureuther, for example, has almost 580.000 subscribers to his Facebook page alone.
