Pantkowski with a shutout / Körner and Drews hit / Free to play tomorrow
The U20 national team won 2017-20 (2-0; 0-0; 0-0) against Norway in the penultimate game of the 2 IIHF U0 Ice Hockey World Championship Div.I in Bremerhaven. The team led by BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast has no games tomorrow before they play against France on Saturday (20.00 p.m.).
In the first part of the game, the DEB-Select significantly more game shares than their counterparts. But the first goal didn't want to be scored either in equal numbers or in superior numbers. Both Lucas Dumont, Julian Napravnik and Lukas Kälble narrowly failed.
The same scenario continued in the second half of the game. Germany worked well, played aggressively and committedly on offense and goalkeeper Mirko Pantkowski withstood all attacks in the German box. So he first equalized a solo effort, then a penalty shot from the Norwegians.
Twelve minutes had already been played in the final period before local hero Christoph Körner did that DEB-Team redeemed itself with its goal in the majority. Norway tried everything until the end to score the next goal, but the German defense stood firm. Yannick Drews made the final score 2-0 with his empty net goal one second before the end of the game.
Federal Young Talent Trainer Christian Künast: “It was a game of equals. The boys worked well, were patient and ultimately deserved to win.”
Charlie Jahnke: “It was a great feeling to win today. Now we have the day off tomorrow and can concentrate on the game against France on Saturday. We have been preparing hard for this World Cup all season and we want to show that on Saturday.”
