U20 national team: Final World Cup squad has been determined

Victory in the last World Cup test against France / Kopp scores twice

The U20 national team won 6:3 (2:3; 4:0; 0:0) against France in the last World Cup preparation game in Langenhagen. BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast also names the final squad for the 2017 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship in Bremerhaven.

The DEB-Selection got off to a better start in the game today and were able to take the lead through Samuel Soramies after just three minutes. But the French didn't take long to ask and promptly took advantage of a power play and a mistake by the German defense to take a 2-1 lead. 12 seconds before the first break, Leon Gawanke brought his team within a goal, before the Germans' evaluation of chances in the second third showed a positive outcome. In addition to Niklas Postel and Julian Kornelli, Valentin Kopp was able to get on the scoresheet twice and while Cody Brenner kept his box clean from then on, the final score was 6:3 from a German perspective.

As coach Künast announced before the measure, the final squad for the upcoming World Cup was named after the game. “It’s never easy to make these decisions. The boys presented themselves really well and I would like to once again express my thanks for their commitment.” In addition to defender Halbauer, strikers Kornelli and Postel are also heading home. “We are going into the tournament with three goalkeepers, seven defenders and 13 strikers.” The team led by BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast is heading to Bremerhaven this evening, where their first World Cup game against Kazakhstan is scheduled for Sunday.
