Mayenschein scores and prepares the winning goal / Künast: “The boys are always 100% ready”
The U20 national team won the second game of the U20 Future Challenge against EHC Freiburg 3:2 after extra time (0:0; 1:1; 1:1; 1:0).
After a fairly even, goalless first third, Julian Kornelli brought it on DEB-Selection took the lead 24-1 with a targeted shot on the stick hand side (0th minute of the game). As a result, Granz and Drews narrowly missed extending the German lead within a few minutes. There was a brief moment of shock when German goalie Mirko Pantkowski missed the target but was able to make a spectacular save at the last second. Almost two minutes later he was no longer able to prevent the Wolves from leveling at 1-1.
But the team around BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast continued to act with commitment and came out of the locker room with a lot of momentum. That should pay off. Jakob Mayenschein took the lead again in the 44th minute in his first game after a long injury break. The hosts were able to save themselves into extra time by equalizing again a few minutes later, but there it was once again a strong Mayenschein who fed Simon Schütz and thus scored the 3-2 winning goal.
German goalkeeper Mirko Pantkowski was voted the best player of the game.
Federal Young Talent Trainer Christian Kunast: “A big thank you to the EHC Freiburg for the great organization and implementation of the U20 Future Challenge. We were able to work on details and small things in the two days here and have made a small step forward since we last met in Kaufbeuren. On the positive side, the boys are always 100% ready when we get together.”
