Gläßl and Körner meet / Künast: “The team was convincing in terms of running and fighting”
Successful start: The U20 national team wins the first game of the U20 Future Challenge in the Sparkasse Arena against ESV Kaufbeuren with 2:1 (0:0; 0:1; 1:0; 1:0) after penalty shootout.
Both teams started the game a bit hesitantly, although they created some good opportunities on offense, but in the end they weren't compelling enough. Goalkeeper Cody Brenner was called upon for the first time in the 13th minute of the game when the Kaufbeuren team were able to make their first statement with a solo effort. As a result, the red and yellow increased the pressure, but the DEB-Selection reacted well and brought the deserved 0-0 into the first break.
In a much more lively second half of the game, the hosts were able to take a 35-1 lead in the 0th minute. Patrick Berger, who was in the goal half way through the game DEB-Selection moved up and had no chance with the deflected shot from the blue line. On the other hand, Eric Valentin failed a few minutes later because of the visitors' goal.
In the final third, Maximilian Gläßl brought the deserved equalizer a good four minutes before the end on a pass from Tobias Eder. In the subsequent penalty shootout, Christoph Körner scored the decisive 2-1 in favor of the German U20 national team.
Christian Kunast: “Today we saw a very united performance from a young U20 team. The team was convincing in terms of running, fighting and, for the most part, tactically.”
