I have to admit defeat to Team Europe 1:2 / Crosby becomes MVP
Dramatic finale in Toronto: Team Europe has to admit defeat to top favorite Canada with 1:2 in the second final game of the World Cup Of Hockey.
While the European selection demanded a lot from the Canadian team, Zdeno Chara managed to take the lead 1-0 in the first half of the game, which lasted until the final third. It wasn't until almost two minutes before the end of the game that Patrice Bergeron scored the equaliser. And then things would get dramatic. Team Europe, with one more man on the ice, pressed offensively, but was repeatedly thwarted by keeper Carey Price or the bars. In return, the Canadians countered when they were outnumbered and, with work from Jonathan Towes, Brad Marchand scored the decisive winning goal 44 seconds before the final whistle.
Canada has now marched through the tournament with six wins in six games. Superstar Sidney Crosby was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with ten points, joining the ranks of greats such as Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr.
Captain Anze Kopitar after the game: "We had a lot of fun. We were a very special team and I am sure that we will remember this for a long, long time."
