The U18 national team lost the second game of the DEL Junior Cup to the hosts Jungadler Mannheim with 1:2 (0:0; 1:2; 0:0) and thus finished third in the “Goc” group after the preliminary round.
After a balanced first half of the game with some good chances on both sides, they missed DEB-Selection narrowly took the lead. The Young Eagles, on the other hand, made better use of their power play (20:55) at the beginning of the second third and took the lead by one point. But the German team stuck with it and equalized a few minutes later (22:46). It was Dominik Bokk who was able to convert a follow-up shot from Thomas Reichel. However, the tie didn't last long. The hosts took advantage of a carelessness on the part of the German defense and poked the puck over the line (34:10). In the final third, the team around U18 national coach Steffen Ziesche tried everything to force extra time, but in the end it wasn't enough. So today the German U18s will face Ilves Tampere, the second in the “Hecht” group.
Steffen Ziesche: “We were the better team against Mannheim, but we didn’t use our chances effectively enough and gave our opponents two gifts. Nevertheless, I can’t blame the team, the players did a good job.”
