striker the Grizzlys Wolfsburg is out with a shoulder injury and has to leave, as does Tobias Rieder
After Tobias Rieder (Arizona Coyotes), national coach Marco Sturm now has to do without Gerrit Fauser at the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. During a clinical examination on Saturday afternoon by team doctor Dr. Peter Prodinger (Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Munich) discovered that the Wolfsburg native's old shoulder injury had re-opened. “The shoulder is too unstable, further use would make no sense,” said Prodinger.
Fauser was injured in the first third of Friday's 5-2 win against Belarus. “It happened during a duel behind the opponent’s goal. I immediately noticed that something was wrong. Of course, being eliminated from my first World Cup hurts a lot,” said Fauser.
National coach Marco Sturm: "Gerrit has always put himself at the service of the team and fulfilled his role perfectly. We now have to compensate for Tobias and Gerrit's injuries as a team." Fauser will begin his journey home on Sunday morning.
