German selection will face the top team Finland today / Kahun and Fauser reported
The regeneration didn't take long. Immediately after the bitter 2:3 penalty defeat at the start of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship against France, the evening was short for the national team. After dinner in the team hotel, the players quickly went to bed. The motto was to put your feet up and clear your head. After all, the next duel against Finland is on the program today (from 15 p.m., live on SPORT1).
“Overall, my team did a lot of things right and worked well. Unfortunately there was a lack of completion. But the point can still be very important. Today against Finland we have to show ourselves ready again,” said national coach Marco Sturm on Saturday. The 37-year-old left it open whether there would be changes to the squad, but emphasized that he would report the previously unlicensed players Gerrit Fauser and Domini Kahun.
It's no secret that today's clash against one of the favorites for the World Cup title will be a completely different game. Because while the French initially limited themselves more to nipping the German attack efforts in the bud and making isolated (and successful) pinpricks in the offensive, the Finns can be expected to take the reins this time.
“Finland is a technically strong and good running team,” says captain Marcel Goc: “Scandinavian teams are always extremely dangerous.” That’s exactly what “Team Suomi” already showed against Belarus. At 6:2, the Northern Europeans still needed a third of time to get used to it, but then made short work of their opponent. “It will be a big challenge,” says Marco Sturm.
