Liebsch: “Equal to the opponent over 60 minutes”
The U16 national team narrowly lost the final of the home tournament in Dresden 2:3 (0:0; 2:2; 0:1) against Switzerland and finished the tournament in second place.
In the first third both teams largely leveled off and the score remained 0-0 until the break.
Seven minutes had been played in the middle third when Switzerland took a 1-0 lead, which the German team was able to equalize 40 seconds later (1-1). Five minutes later, Switzerland took the lead again, but the German team didn't give up and two minutes later they equalized 2-2. With this result we went into the second break.
In the final period, the Swiss scored the 3-2 winner five minutes before the end.
Uli Liebsch: “As expected, it was a difficult task against Switzerland and my team was equal to their opponents for over 60 minutes. Of course we would have been happy about winning the tournament. But the most important thing for us is that our players have had the opportunity to learn and gain experience through this international tournament.”
