Künast: “Few opportunities not taken advantage of” / Tomorrow’s placement game against Slovakia
The U19 national team lost their third game at the tournament in Salzburg 0:3 (0:0; 0:1; 0:2) against Slovakia.
Not much happened at the start of the game. Germany had to play outnumbered twice, but survived both unscathed.
A few minutes had been played in the second third when Slovakia took the lead 0-1. The German selection was unable to use two subsequent power plays to equalize and so the deficit remained just 0-1 after the second third.
A few minutes after the start of the final period, the score was 0-2 for the Slovaks. At the end, the German team tried everything again, taking the goalkeeper off the ice in favor of a sixth skater. But the equalizer would not fall. Instead, Slovakia scored with an empty net goal to make the final score 0-3.
BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast: “Against very compact Slovakians, we were unable to take advantage of our few chances on the offensive. They took full advantage of the few mistakes we made.”
Tomorrow the German team will face Slovakia again in their placement game at 10:00 a.m.
