Liebsch: “Team showed morale” / Thursday against Denmark
The U16 national team won its first game at the home tournament in Dresden 6:4 (2:0; 0:1; 4:3) against Austria.
Coach Uli Liebsch's German team tried to dominate the game from the start and consequently took the lead 1-0 after just under four minutes. The German team took advantage of a power play in the 12th minute to make it 2-0. With this result we went into the first third break.
The second third was also more disjointed due to penalties on both sides. The Austrians got into the game better and were able to score the 2-1 goal in the majority.
The beginning of the last third belonged to the Austrians. They equalized 36:2 after just 2 seconds. In the 51st minute, Austria took the lead 2:3 with a power play. The German team did not give up and was able to decide the game in their favor with four goals in seven minutes. Austria scored in the last minute to make the final score 6:4.
Uli Liebsch: “Our game was marked by many small inadequacies. If Austria had left the ice as winners today, it wouldn't have been entirely undeserved. Nevertheless, congratulations to my team, they didn’t give up the game and showed morale.”
Dominik Bokk was named the best German player.
