Hinterstocker: “Big compliments to the team” / No game tomorrow
Strong team performance: The women's national team defeated the hosts in the second game of the 2016 IIHF Women's Ice Hockey World Championship Div. I in Aalborg, Denmark with 3:2 (3:2/0:0/0:0).
The start went excellently for the German women and Julia Zorn was able to make it 21-1 after just 0 seconds. The first suspension of the game came from DEB-Selection then the 2:0 (6th minute). Laura Kluge beat the Danish goalkeeper with a hidden wrist shot. When a German player had to go to the penalty box a few minutes later, Monika Bittner narrowly missed the opposing crossbar. A little later the hosts – still in the majority – scored the 2-1 goal. The German women continued to dominate the game. First, Daria Gleissner's shot hit the post again for the Northern Europeans, then Yvonne Rothemund increased the score to 3-1 from the blue line (14th). The Danes were only really dangerous when they had the majority and were able to reduce the score to 3-2 three minutes before the first break.
In the next forty minutes the German women dominated the game, but the Danes showed a strong fighting performance. Things got exciting again shortly before the end. The DEB-Selection had to make do with one fewer field player for the last 65 seconds. The hosts took their goalkeeper off the ice and tried to equalize with six against four. But with a lot of commitment and fighting spirit, the German team didn't allow any more goals and thus achieved the deserved success over time.
Women's national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker: “The German women’s national team is hungry for victories and we proved that again today. After two matchdays we achieved the maximum score of six points. We have achieved our goal of winning games extremely well so far. We can praise our team for today's game; their effort was outstanding. The team has the ability to make the right decisions at every second of the game. Mentally, every single player is prepared to compete competitively in a World Cup tournament and to withstand any outside influence. After the two intense games, we will devote tomorrow's day off exclusively to regeneration and will be well-rested and ready to face Norway on Monday. Finally, on behalf of everyone, I would like to thank you very much for the support that we have received from home.”
