As part of the preparation course for the 2016 IIHF Women's Ice Hockey World Championship Div. I in Aalborg/Denmark on Sunday afternoon the German women's national team won against Austria 5:4 (1:1/0:2/2:0/1:0) after a penalty shootout.
The DEB-Selection had a hard time finding its way into the game and in the first ten minutes the guests gained a visual advantage. However, the German women scored the first goal of the game when Andrea Lanzl set up her strike partner Laura Kluge's power play in an exemplary manner and gave the Austrian goalkeeper no chance with a shot into the corner of the goal (13th minute). The joy of taking the lead lasted just two minutes until Anna Meixner was able to equalize for the women from the Alpine republic.
The German team took the lead again in the middle third. Manuela Anwander fed Laura Kluge and she increased the score to 2-1 with her second goal (25th). As a result, the Austrians proved to be masters of efficiency. With just seven shots on goal, they scored three goals (27th/33rd/36th minute) to make the score 2:4 at halftime DEB-Selection failed to score another goal in 17 attempts.
In the final section, the German women turned the game around. Nina Kamenik (51st) and Sophie scratcher (59th) made it 4:4. In the penalty shootout that followed, Daria Gleissner and Andrea Lanzl scored, while only Anna Meixner was successful for the guests from Austria.
