The Women's national team Finland had to admit defeat 40:1 (6:1; 3:0; 1:0) in the third game within 2 hours at the Euro Hockey Challenge in Oskarshamn, Sweden.
Before the game, striker Nina Kamenik was selected for her 200th international match DEB Jersey honored.
The start went well: Andrea Lanzl brought it after just 52 seconds DEB-Selection took a 1-0 lead, but the Finns turned the tables with a double strike in the third minute and it was immediately 1-2. Shortly before the first break, the German women had to accept the 1:3.
As the game progressed, the Northern Europeans took advantage of three power-number situations to make the final score 1:6.
Goalkeeper Jennifer Harß was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament by the coaches of the four teams.
Women’s national coach Benjamin Hinterstocker: “Our team's very high effort over the entire 180 minutes of the game was not rewarded with more goals. Every single player tried to show their best ice hockey. Regardless of the results, the German team presented itself as motivated, creative and strong-willed, which makes us positive for the World Cup in Denmark at the end of March.”
The fourth game in four days is tomorrow for the women's national team in Bad Tölz (19.00 p.m.) against Turkey!
The U15 national team wins the last game of the four-nation tournament in Dvur Kralove (Czech Republic) 3:1 (0:0; 2:1; 1:0) against Austria and thus secures second place in the tournament.
Lili Welcke scored all three goals that evening.
Captain Franziska Klinger became the best player.
Team manager Jörg Reimann was critical despite the success: "Today was our worst performance overall. We made too many mistakes, especially in the build-up play, and showed poor tackling. We made it difficult for ourselves, but the girls pulled themselves together towards the end of the game and deserved to win despite everything."
