Künast: “We are satisfied with the performance” / Tomorrow against Switzerland
Hard work not rewarded: The U19 national team lost 5:1 (4:0; 2:0; 2:1) to Sweden in the first game of the 0-nation tournament in Deggendorf.
The DEB-Selection started the game committed and self-confident. After a good six minutes, Lukas Kälble marked the German team's biggest chance to date with his shot against the post. But the Swedes increasingly won more of the game and were able to take the lead with two goals in the first third.
The German team's commitment was also high in the second half of the game. When in the majority, Christoph Körner narrowly missed the goal after good work from Julian Napravnik and was denied by the 1.96 m tall Swedish man behind him.
Cody Brenner in goal for the German U19 was able to demonstrate his skills again and again and kept his team in the game for a long time. But the Swedes continued to act resolutely, increased the pressure and extended their lead with two more goals before the second break.
In the last 20 minutes, the team led by BundesYoung talent coach Christian Künast showed a strong final third thanks to a good defense. Napravnik took advantage of the first substitution and scored Germany's well-deserved first goal. Also in the following minutes the DEB-Choose bolder. Two more chances followed when they were outnumbered, but another goal failed to materialize and the Germans ultimately lost to Tre Kronor 1-4.
The German U19 national team's next game will take place tomorrow at 20.00 p.m. against Switzerland. The Swiss surprisingly won 3-2 against the favored Finns in their first game.
Christian Künast (BundesYoung Talent Coach): "Overall, we are very satisfied with today's performance. The boys showed impressive commitment and were able to play really well at times."
Yannick Drews (EV Regensburg): “We were able to keep up really well today. If we make better use of our chances, things will look completely different in the end. Tomorrow we face Switzerland. It’s always something very special and everyone is highly motivated.”
