First Michael Wolf, now Patrick Reimer - The DEL record goalscorers seem to be taking turns this season: Thanks to his 263rd goal last Friday, the Nuremberg player passed the former national team captain (262). On Sunday, Reimer added two more goals in the 3:6 defeat. In the interview he talks about the meaning of the record, the sporting situation of his team and the national team.
Patrick, first of all congratulations on the record. Do we now have to congratulate you or Michael Wolf every week, alternating between setting new records?
I'll ask for it (laughs). No, to be honest: I was of course happy about it and I would be lying if I said it didn't make me a little proud. You're happy to take that with you. But then it's good again. I think 'Wolfi' sees it similarly. Ultimately it's about helping the team. And if you can do that with goals, then that's enough, regardless of a particular brand. I would have gladly exchanged the two goals in Schwenningen for a win.
You are currently in fifth place after four wins from the last five games - how satisfied are you with your ranking?
We have brought more consistency into our game recently, and these successes were particularly important in the current phase. Nevertheless, it turns out that we must not let up. There are just six points to eleventh place.
But now at the bottom of the table, Krefeld, a win is a must, right?
Of course we want to take three points. But those are the hardest and most thankless games when you have to play against the bottom team. Especially because the penguins have become more stable recently and have gained a lot of self-confidence through their win in Cologne. It will be just as tough a test as against a top team.
Soon the national team will be calling again. Instead of a break, the national players have to take a course in Garmisch. An additional burden?
Not at all. I'm looking forward to seeing the boys after that Deutschland Cup to be able to see. With a view to the World Cup and Olympic qualification, every minute with the team is worth gold. On and off the ice. After that we still have plenty of free time.
