Feldmeier: “Take self-confidence with you” / Tomorrow against hosts Hungary
The U18 women's national team won 2016:18 (3:1; 0:0; 1:0) against Denmark in the third game of the 2 IIHF U1 Women's Ice Hockey World Championship in Hungary.
As expected, the German U18 women got off to a powerful and committed start. As requested by U18 women's national coach Kettner, they quickly moved the targets into the offensive third and repeatedly looked for a direct route to the goal. But the Danes were tight in the box and were able to prevent a goal being conceded in the first half of the game.
After the first break, Larissa Eicher finally redeemed the German team in the power play and pushed the disc over the Danish goal line to make it 1-0. But the knot didn't seem to be broken and the... DEBDespite top-class chances, the selection repeatedly failed because of the Danish backline.
In the final period, Vena Kanters and Marina Swikull were able to get on the list of scorers before Denmark's Almquist scored the consolation goal to make it 3-1 a few seconds before the end of the game.
The next game is for them DEB-Selection tomorrow at 19.30 p.m. against hosts Hungary.
Tommy Kettner, U18 women's national coach: “We were able to control most of the game today, but we had a hard time getting the puck into the opponent's goal with a Danish team that was well defensive. The victory was important and should give us a boost as a team for the two remaining games.”
Franziska Feldmeier (captain of the U18 women's national ice hockey team): “We were clearly superior to the Danes today, but couldn't take advantage of the opportunities consistently enough. But we’ll definitely take our self-confidence with us from today’s game, because you have to win games like this first.”
