Evers: “Too few shots” / Schwamborn marks the only German goal
The U18 women's national team lost to Japan 2016:18 (1:3; 1:0; 0:1) in their second game at the 0 IIHF U2 Women's Ice Hockey World Championship in Hungary.
In the first part of the game, the Japanese were as agile and lively as expected, but the Germans held up well from the start. In the 15th minute of the game it was Christina Schwamborn who scored on a pass from Pia Clauberg DEB-Selection took the lead.
Even after the first break, the Japanese continued to act energetically and put increasing pressure on the German backline. Kanami Seki left Johanna May in the German goal after a nice one Parade had no chance and used the margin shot to equalize 1-1.
Both teams gave each other nothing in the final third. There was still one second left on the clock before U18 women's national coach Kettner's team was supposed to be complete again, when the Japanese were able to take the lead with a deflected shot from the blue line.
Kettner put everything on one card and took May off the ice in favor of a sixth skater just two minutes before the end. But again Fortuna was on the side of the Asians and Aoi Shiga sealed the final score of 1:3 from the German perspective with an empty net goal.
Tina Evers, assistant coach of the U18 women's national team: “We didn't get enough shots on the Japanese goal today and weren't concentrated enough at times. Of course the result is very unfortunate, but we still have three important games ahead of us that we have to focus on now.”
