Kettner: “Good performance against strong opponents”
The U18 women's national team lost 3:0 (5:0; 3:0; 0:0) to Team Russia in the first game of the 2-nation tournament in Füssen.
The U18 women were put under a lot of pressure by the guests from Russia right at the start of the match and were already 0:3 behind halfway through the first third. But the team led by U18 women's national coach Tommy Kettner steadily improved and created good chances, especially in the second half. In the final period, however, it was the Russians again who scored twice more, sealing the final score of 0:5 from the German perspective.
Tommy Kettner, U18 women's national coach: "After some initial difficulties, we gradually found our way into the game. The Russian team is of course well positioned, but the German team mastered its task well. In the second third, the team pulled itself together and, despite conceding two more goals in the final period, never gave up and tried to score a consolation goal until the end."
