Reunification 25 years ago / Pfuhl: “Everything happened very quickly and without any problems”
Exactly 25 years ago today, on September 11, 1990, the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) and the GDR Ice Hockey Association.
The two delegations met in 1990 at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich under the leadership of the association presidents Peter Kolbe (GDR) and Otto Wanner (BRD) and were absolute pioneers when it came to the merger: 22 days before the states of the GDR and the FRG merged , the ice hockey associations of the East and the West united as the first German sports associations.
“In principle, everything went very quickly and without any problems. Otto Wanner also has the two top GDR clubs Berlin and Weißwasser were granted the opportunity to play in the ice hockey Bundesliga immediately and without any sporting qualifications in a completely uncomplicated and unbureaucratic manner,” recalls the then managing director of the GDR Ice Hockey Association and today DEB-General Secretary Michael Pfuhl.
As part of the Deutschland-Cups in November 2016 in Augsburg DEB celebrate this anniversary appropriately with the people concerned.
