Der 25. Februar vor genau einem Jahr. 5.075 Zuschauer im Gangneung Hockey Centre erleben ein packendes Finale der Olympischen Winterspiele in PyeongChang. Mittendrin: Die deutsche Mannschaft, die sich sensationell bis ins Finale vorgekämpft hat. Wer hätte es für möglich gehalten, dass diese Mannschaft eine Medaille aus Südkorea mitnimmt? Nie zuvor hat eine deutsche Eishockey-Nationalmannschaft in einem Olympia-Finale gestanden.
Gegen das favorisierte Team der Olympischen Athleten aus Russland hält das Team vom damaligen Bundestrainer Marco Sturm stark dagegen – führt sogar nach Toren von Felix Schütz, Dominik Kahun und Jonas Müller bis kurz vor dem Ende mit 3:2. 56 Sekunden vor Schluss rettet Nikita Gussew allerdings die russische Mannschaft mit seinem Tor in die Verlängerung. Dort nimmt dann das Drama seinen Lauf: Kirill Olegowitsch Kaprisow schießt die Olympischen Athleten aus Russland nach 69:40 Minuten zum Olympiasieg. Es folgt ein kurzer Schockmoment unserer Silberhelden. Doch die realisieren schnell, was sie in den vergangenen Wochen in Südkorea geleistet haben. Enttäuschung über die verlorene Goldmedaille? Ganz und gar nicht! Die Freude über die gewonnene Silbermedaille – über den größten Erfolg der deutschen Eishockeygeschichte – überwiegt.
“Den 25. Februar 2018 werde ich in meinem Leben nicht vergessen”, erinnert sich DEB-Präsident Franz Reindl zurück. “Eine deutsche Eishockey-Nationalmannschaft im Olympischen Finale gegen Russland. Welch sensationelle Leistung unseres Teams. Allein beim Gedanken an diesen sensationellen Tag bekomme ich Gänsehaut pur!”
